Awks I didn’t study orgo. It took 1.5 hours but it’s only 2 storyboards… I’m going to need to step up my game if I want this finished in 2.5 weeks. Also 2 exams next week dont freak out do not. freak out.
My priorities in life leave much to be concerned for.
I didn’t take a photo of everyone’s sculpture, I think I’m missing like 8 or so… sucks ‘cause there were a bunch of good ones I didn’t photograph.
So the first one, she originally had that in mind, but then she presented it to us as the second one. The first looks pretty cool on a wall, much more interesting, and the second, we thought it’d look really nice if there was more height to it. I thought about rock pillars. Like the ones in atla lmao. but yeah. Apparently wood stain is toxic and this lady froze her bare fingers handling that stuff outside in the cold for 2 hours goddamn.
Second is a WIP snapchat hehe. I noticed it looked like a ribcage then and have been unable to unsee it ever since.
The third one! Okay so I think this guy is a service personnel on campus, I’m not sure where, but he constantly has a umd work polo on haha. But yeah so he’s been working with this theme all semester, if not the shape, then the variance progression in height. It can spread out more than that, but we all thought this was his best form yet.
Last is well. No wood cutter = chipping away with my xacto knife. I haven’t cleaned the floor yet, but there’re definitely bits of metal scattered around there… I’m proud of you xacto knife, you did well.
Okay I am done. Sorry critiques are really fun hahaa. People are all really supportive of each other, and we’re all generally good about doing concrits hahaha. Also the professor surprised us with pizza today, meaning he got a check recently! Ngl I in particular get really hungry during critiques, so for the past two crits, people have been bringing and sharing random food with each other to save our stomachs hahaha. Also I get kind of dramatic in this class, so when he called pizza out to me, I actually kind of spun around and slid a bit really excitedly hahaha. The best part was his reaction though. Professor Sham has the most hilarious laugh and he clapped his hands and was like “HA I like that, do it again!”
We’re all mature 5 year olds fear not. If only I could take his class next semester poop.
Today was critique day! This project was serial planes in wood, and could be anything you wanted. What I ended up loving most about this project, was just how everything people made just fit them so well. It was just their style and it was great being able to see it in everyone’s work.
Mine’s that first one, including me with my really stupid face [my friend sent the picture hahaha] It was really cool hearing how people interpreted it, including a nest, a cave, a skeleton, lungs, a heart, mufasa’s hand LOL, and a cobra. I don’t have any other views of it sorry haha. It wasn’t what I had in mind, and turned out to be like 20x more complicated than I originally planned, but hey, it’s me, it was bound to happen lol.
The second one’s a cat with a fish inside made of spacers, it’s a bit hard to tell ‘cause the angles are weird. The girl who made it, she always looks like she’s lacking inspiration/drive during class, but then she pumps out stuff that’s just so typically her ffff. She’s kind of adorable that way.
The third one, the shell/spiral/circle thing. Okay THIS GUY HERE is ridiculous. He’s kind of quiet, but makes ridiculous shit [comp-sci major, very technical], and this was like the first project that he’s been genuinely excited about. Every time I looked over at his area there were just rows and rows of circles of different sizes and no one knew what he was doing and I pretty much literally said ‘what the FUCK’ when I saw it ‘cause yeah. It’d be cool architecture.
Fourth! Is by one of my friends, she makes really complicated shit. She’s the girl who gets stuck on what to do for 3 class periods, and then all of the sudden magic pops out of the air over the course of 2 days and no sleep. Everything’s just always so elegant and calm with her work. I could meditate in front of that haha. If you look carefully, Canada’s in there somewhere.
Fifth is by another friend. She wanted to do the concept of fire, and originally had a cool sword thing working out, until Professor said she needed spacers to create “serial, not laminated!” planes. I do like the end result though, it’s like kind of wild with attention to detail. and we talked about extending it to reach the floor like real fire and how cool that’d be hahaaa.
Sixth is not serial oops. But I liked the overlapping organic layers. I don’t remember this girl’s name my bad, but it does double as a speaker amplifier hahaa.
Part II is nextt.
So I thought it’d be a great idea to create a 2-3 minute hand drawn animation in 3 weeks. This is coming from a person’s who’s animated like 1 thing in her life and that was a 3 second thing with like 60 frames and took a whole night.
Fear not this will be more a storyboard/stop-motion kind of thing with random little animations because wow I do have other things to worry about.
Still storyboarding. I think I have over half done. Will probably have to change some shots/perspectives/sequences around [I don’t know how to camera angle]. I also need to learn how to draw backgrounds and color flats in. I figured I’d draw them out on pieces of paper [or half pieces of 8x14], scan them, line trace on illustrator, then dump things in photoshop for frame animation. Which means I really need to take my laptop to McK because fucking adobe suite won’t download on my computer for unknown reasonsss.
It’s about a girl and her burd and then get warped to the moon and it’s all very silly and exciting stuff.
Things I do instead of studying. These days, because of tumblr (…), I constantly imagine Levi to always be a little bit sad. I’m not caught up with the most recent episodes, but I did read the manga so I know what happens… but yeah someone posted that shot of a drawer full of badges (which was so not cool btw.) And I figured that he never really stops thinking about his comrades. He tries not to show it, but there’s always a hint of a tired sadness in his eyebrows if you look right. It’s like a sad determination to honor their deaths and fight for a future without comrades constantly dying.
Basically, I need this guy’s backstory like asap because this show has too many feelings and obviously I need more. Also drawing expressions what is that did I succeed haha…
Uploading this before I forget [again…]
Piano! Made completely out of cardboard, hot glue, pain, and sheer willpower. It’s a little hard to see, but the piano is playing the second chord of Rachmaninoff’s concerto no. 2. If I had more time, I would’ve made a chair, and figured out some method of making cardboard piano string… But yeah that’s done.
Dimensions are um, about 12x11.5x14ish. It could’ve been bigger, but I didn’t have big enough cardboard pffft. Ah welll now it’s just adorable.
Have a double baked potato. It was delicious and now I’m hungry.
Have a preview of the most fucked up monstrosity I’ve ever made. I’m mostly upset that I managed to completely reverse the keyboard… all that work.
It’s all cardboard. I melted my hand off like 3 times, hot glue hurts okay. It’s also 8 am and I feel like going to sleep would just be a very bad idea. I could go to my TA’s office hours… I only mostly finished my post-lab because i dont know how to orgo.
I drew Ellie but her foot is gone because my sketchbook didn’t want to magically stretch its page sorry. I also could’ve drawn a rock to lean on but she’s leaning on nothing instead I’m very sorry. Is her leg awkward I can’t tell.
My baby girl likes to read in her spare time :D
Look some drawing things! [It’s sad because this is pretty much all I drew this summer. Hurray art blocks.] I tried taking advantage of the library’s scanner, but I think I need to reconfigure the settings or something because some of this stuff is just really….heavily pixelated. Next time.
Trying to work on brush pen inking… I feel like I shouldn’t draw so small when inking so I can control the brush more welp. It’s interesting, fun at times, difficult as fuck other times, moreso when my hands decide they like shaking :l
Blargh comments in respective things. I need to draw more.
I drew a Laura face. I kind of like it. Except for hair.
Don’t understand curly/wavy hair D:
Sitting out on the Mall while waiting for bus. It’s really nice when you’re in the shade hahaa
So these are fun :) There’s Laura with emotions, Hawllay-who-now-has-different-hair, and narcoleptic/dramatic me!
More are likely to come! :DD
Look the fruits of my drawing labor today.
I got bored at work. And I liked the quote. I even used a ruler and everything to try and get straight lines! …Except it’s still a little lopsided. And I need to chop off like a cm off the top of the paper.
I may hate this later. Idk how to choose fonts.
Look two fat burds being fluffy and adorable. Sam’s new nickname is Wolverine because come on look at that fab square head he’s a fierce one.
I’m going to wash this all off before I get ink poisoning for real… I dunno if fountain pen ink is toxic or not lmao.
Look a Kimbra!
Have I mentioned that I’m really horrible at studying in my dorm? There IS a reason why I lock myself in the library instead..
Awkward I forgot this stuff doesn’t like washing off in one go. It should be gone by the end of tomorrow…I think.
